A working technical notebook

Hi, I'm Jesse and I am a software development teacher. Prior to being a teacher I worked as a full-stack dev, using Go and React, for a B2B automotive platform. I will be using this site to document and share what I learn, build, test, and explain. I am also a dad of three girls, and I enjoy playing videogames.

I chose the name Close To The Metal because I am really into the low-level stuff. But I am also "close to the source" when it comes to my job as teacher in this field. I teach young people (ages 16-30) about this wonderful field. I also really like metal music so that made it all come together.

The current center of gravity is embedded programming and low-level systems development, but the site is intentionally broader than one topic. It is a place for technical learning over time and a means to share what's going on in my world with the internet.
