Machine that knows how to get outside using moisture sensor?

As I was having breakfast this morning, I noticed some sort of bug resting on one of our kitchen windows. Next to that window, was a big open door that connects to our garden. I was wondering, why don’t these bugs have like an internal sensor that can guide them out? Why are they not able to escape our kitchen and head back outside. This made me think of an idea I’d like to make one day: a robot/drone that can follow a trail of moist air to find a way outside. Still very much an idea, but I wanted to jot it down.
